Frequently Asked Questions

Why am I billed a Regional Water Authority Fee ?

Water districts in the Gulf Coast Region are mandated by the State to join a Groundwater Reduction Plan. Regional Water Authorities are responsible for implementing the Plan to reduce the use of ground water by converting to surface water. The costs associated with building and maintaining the surface water infrastructure are passed on to the customers. Your Regional Water Authority Fee is charged per 1,000 gallons of water used, so the more water you use, the higher this fee is.

Why does my bill increase so much in the summer months ?

Higher Usage = Higher Bill

Irrigation is the #1 reason that usage increases during summer

  • Irrigate grass and landscaping no more than TWICE per week. Most of us overwater.
  • Adjust sprinkler heads so that you water grass, not the concrete.
  • Upgrade to water conserving nozzles.
  • Convert to drip irrigation for flowerbeds.
  • Maintain your irrigation system by repairing leaks and knowing how to program the system.

Irrigation Tips

  • Misaligned, clogged, or broken sprinkler heads can direct water to fall on hardscapes, or even your neighbor's lawn! Get in the habit of checking spray patterns right after each mowing, when sprinkler heads can get knocked out of alignment.

  • Make sure you have rain sensors installed to prevent your irrigation system from running during/and or after rainstorms.

Water Conservation Tips

  • Turning off the faucet while brushing teeth saves 6 gallons of water a day. Run your clothes washer and dishwasher only when they are full. You can save 1,000 gallons a month. Check for faucet and toilet leaks, a leaky faucet can waste up to 3,000 gallons of water per year and a leaky toilet can waste up to 73,000 gallons per year!

  • If your lawn is mushy underfoot, has a musty odor or is sprouting mushrooms, moss, or mold, it's clearly time to cut back. Reduce the number of watering days, maintain the duration (minutes you're applying water), and monitor the lawn's appearance to determine the right amount  a product or service you'd like to show.
